Retrobox Gaming Console
This was a product I designed for myself and a few friends. It a console I designed for retro video gaming can Retrobox. It is inspired by the raspberry pi based emulation of old consoles. These are amazing but limited when it comes to more intensive systems such as Gamecube, N64 and PlayStation 2. So, for this reason, I designed a custom console that is a supercharged version that could play all of our favourite games.
The base unit uses a barebones style pc with a certain spec that makes it perfect for this purpose. I used an amazing piece of software to develop a custom front-end user interface for this. The software is called LaunchBox, this allowed me to integrate various emulators into one user interface that could be controlled by an Xbox 360 controller. I designed a custom menu for this in Photoshop as well as a selection of stickers to finish off the product design.
The console is able to play N64, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Playstation One, Dreamcast, SNES, NES, Gameboy Classic and Adv’, Atari, Neo Geo, Sega Mastersystem as well as old arcade only systems like Capcom Playsystem and Namco.
This was a very fun project that started with a raspberry pi but quickly progressed into something much more impressive. The next step in this project, of course, is to build an arcade game tower to house the console…
