Giant Pocket Watch
A giant pocket watch prop that I designed as a feature product for Alice in Wonderland themed events. The product is inspired by the pocket watch held by the white rabbit in the story. I designed the prop in both Gold and Silver.
I designed the basic proportions in 2D on adobe illustrator. The overall design was inspired by interesting antique pocket watches. The overall form is milled from polystyrene with a 3D model I created. The watched splits into 2 halves through its center using 3 curved keyhole fixings. This allows for the clock face to be accessed for maintenance and to set the time.
The clock face uses a mix of materials for an effortlessly striking effect. The basic details are printed with the numerals being cut from black acrylic and glued on. The center is a featured I designed to mimic the watches where you can see the mechanisms. Using various special effect vinyl it makes for a feature to the design. The handles can be changed and the design was created in such a way that in the future it can be updated to have an actual clock mechanism. The outside of the build was painted with a metallic paint.
