Naria Wardrobe Entranceway
This product design was a Narnia Wardrobe themed entranceway. This was a prop that I designed for event prop hire. The idea behind the entranceway is that a client places it in front of existing doors that are propped open. This allows an event to go that next step towards an immersive theming environment. It lets users feel like they are actually entering Narnia, venturing into the magical frozen forest. The entranceway looks amazing when surrounded by lush pine trees props flocked with snow.
This project has a very tight timescale and was the small batch production of two units. The products had to be designed and built within 2 weeks for a Christmas themed event. Taking inspiration from the simplicity of Ikea based fabrication I designed the products to be milled out in flat panels then simply assembled. The cutout pieces were all engraved and had predrilled holes. This was supplied with production focused instructions. The success of this approach was shown by the fact both were built in under 2 days.
The finish of the product was a paint based effect. I design in additional features such as a lion face engraving on the pillars. I created this by taking a stock 3D model, then playing with the proportions and scales so that it worked as a shallow engraving. I then had the model cut from machinable wax, this was then molded.
